The Department of Theatre provides the scope and opportunity for students to undertake formal and systematic training at diploma level. Opportunity is also offered to those who aspire to further develop their talents and skills in the art of theatre progressively through part-time courses or short courses at the certificate level.
Starting from a foundation in the Malay traditional theatres and then moving on to include studies in the development of modern theatre, the approach adopted by the Department of Theatre is a system which includes lectures, studio work and production work focusing on tutelage by established figures in the arts, good reference books, group discussions, research through the internet and project implementation. The course contents are designed to provide retainable skills and experiences according to the current needs of the performing arts industry with emphasis on the practical aspects, without neglecting the need to establish mastery of the theoretical aspects.
