The Department of Dance provides certificate and diploma level training for students either studying full-time or part-time. The Department of Dance offers comprehensive studies in dance techniques and the various genres of dance from Malaysia, Asia and the West. The department focuses its efforts in cultivating professional dancers who possess good knowledge, capability and in-depth understanding of the art and techniques of both traditional and modern dances. It is also dedicated to equipping graduates with the ability to produce creative works as well as to contribute to research work on the art of dancing. The inimitable approaches that ASWARA implements in fulfilling the above objectives have made it a pre-eminent institute in the performing arts as well as a centre of arts in Malaysia.
After developing the students' foundation in traditional Malaysian dances, the Department of Dance would then take the students on a journey of exploration into various dances of the world through studio activity, lectures and actual productions where students will learn from well-known figures in the dance arena, reference books, dance workshops conducted by local dance activists and also project execution. It is hoped that the comprehensive course contents will equip the students with the skills, the experience and the spirit to uphold the art of dancing, so that graduates from the Department of Dance may contribute positively towards the development of the dance industry in Malaysia. |
